Has anyone drilled their own mud flaps?

I got a set for Christmas, and they're not pre-drilled. I'm thinking I need to remove the inner fender plastic for the front and then put holes in there (there are actually a few screws already that I could use for the flaps as well), but the back doesn't exactly have anything to mount them on. I can do two (or more) holes on the front edge of the bumper, but I need at least one more off to the inside to keep them from wobbling loose. Do you have any tips on something to use as a makeshift mount? I might have some pieces of an Erector set that I can attach to something, somewhere, but that's probably not good enough.

Honestly, I'd avoid drilling holes in the bumper itself. It's an Escort right?

It is, yes. There's really nothing else in the right place in the back to attach it as far as I can tell...

I had to drill holes in the mud flaps buy got away with the existing screws for the fender liners when I did my brothers Chevrolet Sonic

That's what I'll probably do. Although I might have to replace a couple screws in the front since they're kind of tucked away and won't reach if they go through the mud flap first. Shouldn't be a problem if I can find the right length, I hope.
